I’ve been lucky to live a pretty well-rounded life so far. I was born in Adelaide but spent eight great years growing up in Naracoorte, a small country town in South Australia’s south-east. Going to school in a country town was awesome — I played loads of sport, got involved in drama productions, and chopped wood for the fire every night (seriously). One of the best parts of growing up in the country is the independence you get as a kid. Being able to ride your bike around town gave me a lot of confidence and resilience early on.
“Most of all, I learned a lot about high performance, pushing through tough times, and doing what it takes to get results.”
I finished high school back in Adelaide. I was an okay student, but to be honest, my main focus was on becoming the next great fast bowler. That dream kind of came true — I ended up spending 13 years as a professional cricketer. During that time, I got to travel the world, meet some amazing people (including the Prime Minister a couple of times!), and even squeezed in a university degree. Most of all, I learned a lot about high performance, pushing through tough times, and doing what it takes to get results.
After cricket, I knew I wanted to get into sales. A couple of early roles led me to the transport industry, and it just felt like the right fit. There’s a level of structure and pace in logistics that really suits my personality. It’s probably why so many ex-sportspeople end up in the industry. Over the past 14 years, I’ve built a career I’m proud of — with a lot of help from some amazing mentors along the way.
That’s also why I now enjoy helping young people get started in their own careers. Starting out is always the hardest part. Most of us know we’re capable of something, but we just need the right opportunity — and someone who believes in us. That’s where I come in. I get a lot out of giving back, and I’m looking forward to sharing what I’ve learned with the next generation of sales pros and future leaders.
